The Thanksgiving Before Thanksgiving
Well, as the neurosurgeon reassured Becky and the rest of us, the surgery went well. Becky's surgery yesterday had no complications. The neurosurgeon removed a small tumor from Becky's lining of her brain around 10:00 AM or so. The tumor had the characteristics of a benign one, Jim was informed. It will still be handed over to pathology for a biopsy, but a favorable result is likely. Becky spent the rest of the day, evening, and overnight in ICU. Today, I believe, she will be moved to a recovery room to ride out the rest of her stay at OHSU until she is released two to four days from now. The day began early with Jim, Becky, Amanda, Levi, Emma, Joe, Grandma Joan, and Bob caravaning up to Oregon Health Services University Hospital around 4:30 AM. Check in was at 5:30 AM. There was a bit of confusion concerning her operation time. First an 11:30 AM time was set, then another patience's cancellation opened up a slot for 9:30. We all had an opportunity to see Becky in the anaesthesia wing of the hospital before she was gurneyed off to the cutting room. Jennifer drove up on her own around 10:30 AM, after surgery had begun. Jim was personally kept informed by the surgeon(?) as to her progress. Sometime after she was wheeled to ICU, family were permitted to visit a little. Becky was in some pain and still very groggy and sleepy, but she managed to converse a little. Bob wanted to press a conversation about Homer or the war on terror or something, but Becky politely declined. We are all grateful to God for the outcome and couldn't have a better Thanksgiving Day then this. Becky's surrogate Blogger will continue to keep you updated. Later.
