Living without water for 6 days was a pain - filling buckets, heating water on the stove, showering at the neighbors, neglecting dishes and laundry and cleaning (well that part wasn't so bad!) ..... But life sometimes gives you a broken waterline in the back garden plot. And when given the choice to save $2000 on the repair, Jim will dig a trench for the new line. What a gift it is to have water at our fingertips.
Water is worth reflecting on for a minute:
It's needed for survival
It has it's own trinity of sorts: Solid. Liquid. Gas.
It covers 75% of the earth - and the other parts are touched by drops of it in some degree
It is the main ingredient of waterfalls. waves. dew. icicles. steam. snowflakes. tears. even blood.
It was the material Jesus requested for his first miracle - turning water into wine
It was part of the conversation Jesus had with the Samaritan woman. His stage was a well - It was at this well that he made it known out loud that he was the Messiah - "I am he."
It is paired with the Word in baptism. The sign of a heart shaped by Jesus.
I have been drawn to water all my life - in my Kayak, on my paddleboard, on my hikes, at the beach - to places I can drink deeply of God and who He is to me. He is the living water.
